A project briefing at the British Council office in Abuja was conducted before the team proceeded to Kano, Nigeria for the project meetings, courtesy calls, presentation of project work to the community of Bayero University, and interview sessions with government officials and farmer groups. The research areas were the states of Kano, Jigawa, and Bauchi.

The first phase of the project was conducted in the Philippines where Nigerian scholars visited the upland areas of Kayapa, Ambaguio and Sta. Fe in Nueva Vizcaya to gather data from farmers and local government officials involved in agribusiness promotion and development. The data gathered in Nigeria will form part of the research work entitled, “Fostering Agri-Business Research for Women Empowerment: An Exploration of Rural Communities in Nigeria and the Philippines”.

The final phases of the project include preparation of training modules for rural farmers, which will be conducted among the respondents in the Philippines and Nigeria. The training module outputs will be based from the research output of the Philippine and Nigerian teams. Future plans include publishing the research output in a refereed journal.
